I could design and build her a website with a content management system. However this would not be the best method for managing posts and articles in categories like she really needed. It would also increase the cost and her budget constrained this.
WordPress offered a solution for many reasons:
- Ease of use
- WISIWIG format for updates
- PHP compatable
The following is written by Jane of www.onlinemum.com explaining how she uses her new WordPress driven site.
At first I was unsure that WordPress could offer me the solution I needed. I simply thought of people’s Blogs that had long lists of posts, a few adverts and little more. I am so pleased that Steve convinced me that WordPress can be so much more.
I now have a website that looks fantastic. It doesn’t look like a standard Blog site. Yet it is driven by WordPress. I use the WordPress interface to write and upload my articles.
If you can use Microsoft Word, you can use WordPress. It is quite similar in many ways, look at this screen shot:
Just like in Word, you can BOLD, Italic, Centre, Bullet, Spell check, colour and so on. This enables you to make your post look more interesting. It does more than this though, there are more functions, like adding images or videos to your post.
The WordPress Dashboard is really useful. It shows you on one page how many posts, pages and comments you have live. It also tells you if you have any SPAM captured and awaiting deletion! It is like a menu and you can go to any other section from here. Tags, categories – yes I can add categories myself without having to get my web designer to do it! (Sorry Steve!)
I have used WordPress 2.7 before and I must say the new 2.8 version is so much easier to use. I recommend upgrading ASAP if you haven’t done so already.
In fact WordPress makes everything much easier than I thought it would be. When I look at the Posts page. I can see all the posts, tags, dates, categories, number of comments. All together. without me having to keep a separate list to keep my admin in order.
All in all, I am so pleased with my website. It looks good and I can manage it all myself. I can’t change the design, but I can add change and delete articles and content. I am in control.
